For several reasons, this was the most practical education option for me. Unfortunately, there is no practicum or comparative practical training attached to the certificate program, so I'm finding myself unsure what my next best steps are. I have experience working as a clerk at the Law Society of BC, and a small amount of experience with legal assistant work performed on an ad hoc basis. I am no longer with LSBC, and currently am working as an LA at a small firm. Unfortunately, it's not an employer I feel could be relied on as it's not a good working environment and I am taking steps to move elsewhere.

What can I do to gain practical experience, in absence of a supportive workplace? Most employers are understandably seeking experienced paralegals, so while I am actively engaged in a job search my options will be limited. Can anyone advise?

I'm hoping to get some ideas as to what kind of software you use for document management. One of our practice areas is commercial litigation, and there are a lot of documents involved. Does anyone have a software that they use to keep track of documents, and does the software assist the user in generating a List of Documents? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

The firm I work for uses PC Law for billing. It's a boutique entertainment law firm that practices both entertainment and corporate law. Unfortunately PC Law has been really buggy for the last month and we are looking for a new billing software. Just billing.

What software would you recommend? Why or why not?
Thank you in advance for the help!

We've recently mergered with a larger law firm and have been able to merge both Esilaw programs together. I wouldn't recommend it just for billing replacement as it would completely replace your PC Law and is a full accounting program including billing. But I do much prefer Esilaw over PC Law. Hope that helps :-)

I used to use PC Law but found it pretty buggy and updates were not as consent. I've been using Cosmolex for 4 years now and their support team is super helpful. It also has bookkeeping integrated and you can manage multiple Trust Accounts.

Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions!

Esilaw was so much better. That would be my recommendation!

I am wondering if anyone can give me an idea of what they are charging companies for preparing this transparency register and questionnaire and then updating it annually? I'd really appreciate your input on this. I work for a sole practitioner. Thanking you in advance.

Our firm uses software from Dye & Durham that they no longer distribute. Can you please share what software/other resource you use?
