seeking advice in learning

Erin Newman-Renwick posted a discussion in General Discussion
I'm soon to be completed the paralegal certificate program at Capilano University, in April of this year. For several reasons, this was the most practical education option for me. Unfortunately, there is no practicum or comparative practical training attached to the certificate program, so I'm finding myself unsure what my next best steps are. I have experience working as a clerk at the Law Society of BC, and a small amount of experience with legal assistant work performed on an ad hoc basis. I am no longer with LSBC, and currently am working as an LA at a small firm. Unfortunately, it's not an employer I feel could be relied on as it's not a good working environment and I am taking steps to move elsewhere.

What can I do to gain practical experience, in absence of a supportive workplace? Most employers are understandably seeking experienced paralegals, so while I am actively engaged in a job search my options will be limited. Can anyone advise?
