The Government of Canada proposed amendments to the Trademarks Act through Bill C-31 in 2014 and Bill C-30 in 2016. As a result, there will be substantial changes made to the Act coming into force on June 17, 2019. This course will cover the alignment of Canada with international trademark law, changes to use requirements for registration, the term of trademark protection, trademark eligibility, priority claims, and more.
